G.W. Carver Museum

The sculpture, built in close collaboration with the Carver Museum team, tells the story of the American slave trade in the 16th-19th centuries. It shows the North West portion of Africa surrounded by the ocean waves. The three lines departing the continent symbolize the slave trade routes used at the time. The model contains a total of 480 slices, individually machined, using 1/2″ thick baltic birch plywood sheets. It weighs over 2000lbs and held by steel frames.
