George Washington Carver Museum wall

A stacked-slice wall at the entrance to the G.W. Carver Museum's renovated core exhibit, on African American history in 19th-century Texas. It shows the Atlantic as waves, with a relief of part of Africa. We built it in 2019, when the shop was working as Official Science.

What we built

The wall is built from 480 individually machined slices of Baltic birch and weighs over 2,000 lb. It includes inset boxes for archival photographs and three “sliced head” reliefs. Moyo Oyelola was one of the project's design leads.
