Art installations and sculpture fabrication in Austin
We fabricate large installations and sculptural walls for museums, brands and designers, and we've installed them as far away as San Francisco. Our shop is part of the Highland Collective on Airport Blvd, alongside members who do metalwork, large-scale sculpture, murals and electronic controllers.
The North Face at SFMOMA
The North Face's “It's More Than a Jacket” installation opened at SFMOMA on October 6, 2022. It was designed with Grayscale Studio, Experience Research Lab and House of Sorcery, and The North Face's press release credits it as “fabricated by Austin Custom CNC.” We cut the tunnel's ribs from 1 in. corrugated cardboard. The material passed SFMOMA's flame test on September 16, and we built and installed the piece on site on October 4 and 5. See the project.
G.W. Carver Museum
In 2019 we built a stacked-slice wall at the entrance to the Carver Museum's core exhibit on African American history in 19th-century Texas. It shows the Atlantic as waves with a relief of part of Africa, with inset boxes for archival photos and three sliced-head reliefs. The wall is 480 individually machined slices of Baltic birch and weighs over 2,000 lb. Moyo Oyelola was one of the project's design leads.

Working with the exhibit designer MuseWork, we've worked for Palo Pinto Mountains State Park.
How these jobs run
These jobs start from someone else's design: an agency, an artist, an exhibit team. We work out how to build it, get the material approved by the venue, and plan cutting, assembly and installation. At SFMOMA that meant passing the museum's flame test less than three weeks before install.
