Planning a custom reception desk

What a desk has to hold, what to send us, and how we showed John Deere's Austin office its desk before we built it.

We design and build reception desks, check-in desks and host stands for offices, studios and restaurants in our shop at 6401 Airport Blvd in Austin. Design happens in-house, and we draw shop drawings before anything is built.

Start with what the desk has to hold

A reception desk is also a workstation, and much of its design follows from what goes on and in it: monitors, printers, displays and storage. Tell us what it has to hold. Along with that, send:

  • Dimensions of the space, or drawings.
  • Finish ideas or a designer's spec.
  • When you need it.

John Deere's Austin office

For John Deere's Austin office, under contract with Ryan Companies in spring 2022, we built a reception desk around a display box for a historic plow. We showed the design as renderings and a video before we built it.

The same job included a community table and a storage and printer room with counters, cubbies and lockable cabinets.

A check-in desk in corrugated steel

At an Ephemeral tattoo studio, we worked out 3D concepts for the check-in desk with Ephemeral's design lead. The finished desk is clad in the same powder-coated corrugated steel as the twelve private booths we built for the studio.

Other desks and furniture

We built the host stand at Jupiter Supper Club and a guest service station at Mañana Dos. Honest Mary's in Cedar Park got table tops and bases from us. In a West Austin home, we built a dining room credenza in stain-grade white oak plywood with six center drawers.
